Recording Log: June 21, 2011 (First Session)
Started recording on the new project last night at Tony Romminger’s studio in Elizabethton, TN. Tony’s an excellent musician and engineer; the studio is small, but comfortable, and the sounds we’re getting are definitely what we’re looking for, at least on the two songs on which we’re currently focusing: Stephen Simmons’ “Rock and Roll Band” (with Dave on lead vocals) and Rob’s “Pet Rock.” We did five takes of R&R Band, deciding on the fourth as the best basic track. Now warmed up, PR came quicker: the second take was the keeper. Josh and Rob re-recorded a few bits and pieces in R&R band; Dave recorded his guitar part (he’d not played guitar while doing a guide vocal during the recording) — basically, all of the instrumentation on that track is done. PR, though, still needs Rob’s acoustic rhythm and lead guitar, and Josh wants to take another crack at the bass line. Lead and harmony vocals on both tracks are still in the works, as well.
