About rob russell

Rob, live and electric

I keep up the website/blog, and I front a couple of bands. Best known is the one for whom this site is named, my four-piece rock and roll outfit, Rob Russell & the Sore Losers (Facebook) / Rob Russell & the Sore Losers (Reverb Nation). The other members of the band are Andy Russell, David Hart and Josh Reifert. We have two CD’s still available on iTunes and Cdbaby, and three (new EP “Lucky on the  Side — The Extree!”) on bandcamp.com. If we can ever carve enough time out of busy lives (the joys of adulthood!), we hope to make another one.

If you haven’t heard us, some folks describe us as straight-ahead rock and roll, and I take that as a compliment. My influences are equal parts “classic” rock and roll — Dylan, Beatles, Stones, Springsteen, Faces, Petty — and proto-punk and punk-influenced alternative: The Replacements, REM, Flamin’ Groovies, Velvet Underground, etc. Here’s a track from our second CD, 2005′s Lucky on the Side, to give you a sample of our sound:

I also gig with an acoustic group, The Bleeding Heart Show, where I share vocals with my wife, Tracey, and trade licks with our friends Chuck Leamon (guitar, mandolin) and Stephen Marshall (bass).

I’m also starting to play more solo, acoustic shows, as I’m writing more and the band(s) have less time to get together. Here’s a sample of my solo work, which is more in the singer-songwriter vein.
